No more standing in long queues and waiting for days to get your hands on Reliance Jio SIM card! The company is reportedly gearing up to home deliver its 4G SIM cards.


Reliance Jio started its commercial operations with a bang, and the ‘Welcome Offer’ has received an unprecedented response. The company promises to offer unlimited free local and national outgoing calls for life, high-speed internet and a range of content services to its users. However, due to the massive response, queues outside Reliance Digital and Digital Xpress mini stores are a commonplace. The SIM cards are available in limited quantities and most stores have token system and specific time (11AM to 2PM) when you can get it. To do away with the hassle, Reliance Jio could ease the process of getting a 4G SIM card.

Citing sources, TelecomTalk reports that Reliance Jio is gearing up to start doorstep delivery of its SIM cards. For registration, the company may soon launch a portal where prospective customers will have to fill in basic information, such as full name, address, alternate contact number, identity proof and address proof. Once all the details are available, the Relinace Jio 4G SIM card would be delivered to the applicant’s address within seven days. The company has already tested the service with limited users and will soon make it available in metro cities, the publication reports.

At the time of announcing the launch of Reliance Jio commercial services, chairman Mukesh Ambani mentioned that the company is aiming to garner 100 million subscribers in the shortest possible time. However, looking at the response of the ‘Welcome Offer,’ Reliance Jio has revised its ambitions and is now targeting to reachsubscriber base of 250 million. If it does end up achieving this milestone, it will make Reliance Jio the second-biggest operator in India after Bharti Airtel. The company is ready to makeinvestment and expand its network capacity, and also in talks with potential partners to make this happen. However, with the ongoing tussle with incumbent telecom operators overinterconnect points resulting in failed outgoing calls, it will be interesting to see how Reliance Jio can turn things around. Under the ‘Welcome Offer,’ users get unlimited HD voice calling (local and national). Users also get unlimited high-speed internet access (withdaily cap of 4GB, after which speed is cut down to 128Kbps) for free till December31 2016, as well as unlimited local and national SMS. That’s not all; users also get an access to Reliance Jio’s premium content services, such as live TV, online music streaming, and much more. Recently, Reliance Jio also rebranded some of its apps – JioBeats, the online music streaming service is now JioMusic, OnDemand moviesis now JioCinema and JioPlay, the live TV streaming service is now JioTV. JioDrive, the company’s cloud storage service is now JioCloud and JioJoin, which allows users to make HD voice calls fromnon-VoLTE smartphones is now rebranded to Jio4GVoice. Other apps include JioMags, where you can download and read all popular magazines, and JioSecurity, an anti-virus app for Android smartphones. Reliance Jio has also announced its tariff plans which will be applicable starting January 1, 2017. Plans start at Rs 19 (per day), Rs 149 (for 28 days) and go all the way up to Rs 4,999 (for 28 days). These plans are available for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers. Irrespective of which plan you choose, you get unlimited free local and national outgoing calls, and unlimited SMS (capping of 100 per day).
